*Note Spassen = amalgamation of two surnames (^_-) Facebook prodded me the other day to click on their *year in review* app (a clever algorithm which pulls together a special timeline highlighting 20 of the biggest moments on FB from your life over the last 12 months). Not that I needed FB to remind me of this but we’ve had a pretty BIG year with some truly momentous moments along the way. For me, 2013 has been a year of wishes come true: to be close to those I love the most in the world and to be able to watch Magoo grow and mature into an amazing little boy and be there *in person* day-to-day to love and support him on his life journey a long with his awesome mum and dad (^_^) These have been fulfilled time and again and I feel so very blessed. Here are some photos of some of the highlights: Life isn’t always glamorous and there are inevitably a few curve balls to deal with, not to mention missing friends back …
This Friday will mark the three month-versary of Frank the fabulous border collie joining the Stassen clan (^_^) I for one can’t remember life before Frank as he has become such a beloved part of our family and I really hope he is enjoying his new digs. We are blessed with plenty of wide open spaces nearby our new home so Frank gets plenty of exercise and with his new shorter haircut folk regularly mistake him for a pup (even though he’s 93 in human years lol) I’m just happy that he is looking so young and sprightly and that I can keep up with him!!
I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m struggling a little to get my head around the fact that we are fast approaching Christmas and it’s 35 degrees and sunshine outside! I know I know…I should just shut up and enjoy the weather (^_^) but I do rather miss the cold weather/snow, snuggly winter clothing, roaring log fires and that wintery feeling that, for me, is synonymous with Christmas time in the UK. Anyway to get myself in to the Christmas spirit, I started looking at some handmade Christmas decorations which I thought I’d share here: Beautiful Porcelain handmade tree decorations by Caroline C (Gold Coast, Australia)
A very wise friend took me aside this year and said *Anna, you’ve got to get the basics right and look after yourself before you can look after anyone else*. It was quite confronting at the time but I feel blessed that I have people who care enough about me to take me aside and point these things out because, as obvious as it sounds, it’s the single most important piece of advice I’ve ever been given.
It’s always been one of my favourite things meeting talented, creative, inspiring folk. I loved meeting UK designers back when I was with UK Handmade and I’ve now had the pleasure of meeting a few Melbourne-based designers and it’s definitely brought back that same feeling of awesomeness. I had the very great pleasure of bumping into one such amazing designer at this years The Finder’s Keepers market in Melbourne, the exceedingly talented Madeleine Sargent of Made by Mosey who I had been following on instagram for a while already (don’t worry not in a stalkery way). Madeleine makes a stunning range of design pieces for the nursery and home, created entirely by hand with love and care here in Melbourne, Victoria. Magoo’s got a few of Madeleine’s pieces in his nursery which he loves and I’ve had my eye on one of Madeleine’s dreamer mobiles for a while now.
