One of the auntie privileges I take full advantage of is the chance to indulge my love of buying quirky handmade goodies and clothing for my nephew. I am under no illusions that this is purely an exercise in my own indulgence since Magoo would be just as happy playing with a cardboard box as any handmade toy.
Luckily for me, LJ shares this love of locally-designed/made (where possible) and handmade (where possible), unique kid’s goods so I have a partner in crime when it comes to keeping an eye on the myriad of on-line and off-line boutiques for quirky items of clothing and products for Magoo.
We haven’t done a post about handmade goodies for a while now so we’ve stored up a fair few cool labels to share….here are some of our faves (modelled by Magoo of course):
We absolutely LOVE \(^O^)/ these guys and their awesome hand screen-printed short and long sleeve tees! Magoo lived in his Milk & Masuki fox, bear and wolf print tees all summer and will soon be rocking their new autumn/winter-friendly long sleeve Seal, Fox and Penguin tees (>_<)
Milk & Masuki products are all hand screen-printed, 100% organic cotton and are designed by design duo Ishak & Rachael in the Southern Highlands of NSW. You can read an awesome *meet the maker* style interview with them here: http://shortiesnewtown.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/meet-maker.html
It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that little noggi has one of the BEST kid’s hat designs we have ever seen called the *ENA*! Quirky, unique, reversible, stays on with a clever button strap, incorporating a myriad of hand-printed organic hemp and cotton fabrics and all made locally in North Fitzroy, Melbourne! What more could you ask for?
Magoo has been rocking his ENA Limited Edition hat all summer long and it’s carrying through nicely to Autumn because it’s an all year round hat!
We are extra big fans of this particular hat because the gorgeous geometric print fabric called “Deco” used in the upper part of the hat is hand screen-printed by our amazing friend and UK-based eco-textile designer Sarah Waterhouse!! \\(^O^)// a little touch of home for us!
Little Noggi has also recently come out with a new limited edition design called *Billie* which features hand screen-printed fabric by another of our faves, Melbourne-based *Ink & Spindle*!! Little Noggi just ticks all the boxes for us (^_^)
We love the gorgeous range of booties and high tops from this Melbourne-based designer-maker! Perfect for little feet and with a design nod to the art of origami paper-folding these really appeal to our half-Japanese heritage!
NOT local OR handmade but organic and eco-conscious so we like this brand anyway!
Like most little kids, Magoo has a love of animals great and small (sometimes much to the chagrin of LJ’s cats lol) so this brand of clothing is perfect for him! Mibo are a UK-based company that have, in collaboration with French company Coq en Pate, produced a collection of gorgeous 100% organic cotton tees which we guarantee will appeal to any child.
Seriously, I feel like we could go on and on with this list but this is probably enough for one day! We’ve also found some great educational yet fun products for kids from local makers but that will have to be another post!
