I’m not a parent myself (not yet anyway) but watching my sister LJ be a mama has re-framed mother’s day in my mind, from the rather cynical commercial gimmick I used to perceive it as, to the day that mothers (and this goes for father’s day too) are celebrated in the way that they deserve to be for all the thankless, mundane, boring yet necessary tasks they do over and over and over again out of love for their child(ren) each and every day!
Anyone who knows me will know that like a handmade *eye of sauron*, I’ve always got my eye scanning the web for gorgeous handmade goodies and I’ve spotted some rather lovely heartfelt and meaningful goodies for Mother’s day which I thought I’d share:
Love this cute little locket with its mother/baby roo motif, perfect for popping photos of the kids inside to make a treasured keepsake! Husband & wife team, A Skulk of Foxes, design and make some seriously cool jewellery so definitely check out the rest of the collections.
Who doesn’t love a little bit of greenery in their home, personally I think everyone should have at least a few house plants just for air purification purposes! These terrariums by Melbourne-based company Petite Green are not only little pops of green for your home but also embody a wonderful message and reminder of the importance of life with your loved ones.
Here’s what they say:
“Time spent with family remind us of the simple things in life – love, laughter and memories etched into time. Our families create the stories we share with each other and every member of the family has a favourite activity they like to indulge in. Whether it’s mowing the lawn on a Sunday afternoon, pruning the roses, trips to the park or beach holidays, let us capture the special moments for you.”
Petite Green also run workshops where you can learn to make your very own terrarium!
Since Magoo’s arrival, I’ve come to accept that we are accompanied by *nappy bag* wherever we go, but I’ve often thought how nice it would be to find a nappy bag which doesn’t really look like one! Enter Megan Barnao of Bags bymeg who has come up with a range of gorgeous nappy bags which fit the bill!
Mummy Survival Kit by Classy Clutter
Ok, so clearly this is a DIY sort of gift but I think those are often the best kind! The ladies over at Classy Clutter have made up some lovely printable labels that you can adorn your glass jar with (american spelling of mummy though so you could make your own label perhaps?). The best thing about this gift is that you can tailor it to the recipient and fill the jar with items you know they’ll love (voucher for a mani-pedi, handmade chocs, vegan lipbalm, soy candles, body butter, relax-blend tea etc etc)!
I reckon there’s no greater gift for a busy parent than a morning lie-in because they are so few and far between. So, what better way to show your appreciation than by a gift of a lazy morning in these gorgeous linen ensembles by Mornington Peninsula-based company House of Baltic Linen, which specialises in items made from beautiful Baltic linen from Lithuania!
