Mother’s Day Gifts with a thoughtful twist!

I’m not a parent myself (not yet anyway) but watching my sister LJ be a mama has re-framed mother’s day in my mind, from the rather cynical commercial gimmick I used to perceive it as, to the day that mothers (and this goes for father’s day too) are celebrated in the way that they deserve to be for all the thankless, mundane, boring yet necessary tasks they do over and over and over again out of love for their child(ren) each and every day! Anyone who knows me will know that like a handmade *eye of sauron*, I’ve always got my eye scanning the web for gorgeous handmade goodies and I’ve spotted some rather lovely heartfelt and meaningful goodies for Mother’s day which I thought I’d share: Roo & Joey Locket Necklace by A Skulk of Foxes (Geelong, VIC Australia) Love this cute little locket with its mother/baby roo motif, perfect for popping photos of the kids inside to make a treasured keepsake! Toddler Magoo Recommends!

One of the auntie privileges I take full advantage of is the chance to indulge my love of buying quirky handmade goodies and clothing for my nephew. I am under no illusions that this is purely an exercise in my own indulgence since Magoo would be just as happy playing with a cardboard box as any handmade toy. Luckily for me, LJ shares this love of locally-designed/made (where possible) and handmade (where possible), unique kid’s goods so I have a partner in crime when it comes to keeping an eye on the myriad of on-line and off-line boutiques for quirky items of clothing and products for Magoo. We haven’t done a post about handmade goodies for a while now so we’ve stored up a fair few cool labels to share….here are some of our faves (modelled by Magoo of course): Milk & Masuki We absolutely LOVE \(^O^)/ these guys and their awesome hand screen-printed short and long sleeve tees! Magoo lived in his Milk & Masuki fox, bear and wolf print tees all summer and will soon be rocking their new …

The Christmas Spirit

I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m struggling a little to get my head around the fact that we are fast approaching Christmas and it’s 35 degrees and sunshine outside! I know I know…I should just shut up and enjoy the weather (^_^) but I do rather miss the cold weather/snow, snuggly winter clothing, roaring log fires and that wintery feeling that, for me, is synonymous with Christmas time in the UK. Anyway to get myself in to the Christmas spirit, I started looking at some handmade Christmas decorations which I thought I’d share here: Beautiful Porcelain handmade tree decorations by Caroline C (Gold Coast, Australia)

Family Portraits

It’s become a bit of a tradition in our household to commission a very special portrait whenever a new furry character joins our family. So on Frank’s arrival into our fold, in keeping with tradition, I contacted my friend Sabrina to commission a very special portrait of him in all his beautiful long-haired glory (even though he has now had a bit of a summer hair cut!).
